BUFFALO BRIDGE is a 100% self funded, not for profit ancestral skills based project started in 2014.  We are a month long camp that is dedicated to being in service to tribal buffalo hunters outside of Yellowstone, Montana. We are there to offer physical labor to families who request it, helping to skin, gut, quarter and carry their harvests. Everything we offer is completely free, with no expectations. The honor of just touching a buffalo is a gift enough.

Often times, families do gift us parts of the buffalo they won’t be using, including hides, heads, bones, lower legs, bladders, organs, etc. This gives us a unique opportunity to practice innovative ancestral ways of using as much of the animal as possible. Because of the sheer volume of parts we receive, we have the ability to practice many techniques, which allows us to hone in on specific skills.

Celebrating and gathering around the gifts of the buffalo helps connect with the land, each other, and to bridge the gaps between cultures and factions surrounding the politically complex hunt.

Our small group is made up of a handful of ancestral skills practitioners, experimental archaeologists, hide tanners, basket weavers, butchers, plant experts, hunters, flint knappers, biologists, and more!
